ㄷ(디귿) 불규칙vsㄹ(리을) 탈락A real ㄹ-stem drops its ㄹ and takes no 으: 걸다 'hang' → 거세요. A ㄷ-irregular keeps ㄹ and 으: 걷다 'walk' → 걸으세요.ㄷ(디귿) 불규칙vs묻다 (ask) / 묻다 (bury)Same dictionary form, different verbs: 'ask' is irregular (길을 물어요), 'bury' is regular (땅에 묻어요).
How to build it
stem in ㄷ+vowel ending (-아/어, -(으)) → ㄷ becomes ㄹ: 듣+어요 → 들어요
- This new ㄹ is not an ㄹ-stem: 으 stays and nothing drops, so 들으세요 and 걸으면 (not 드세요, 걸면).
- Many ㄷ verbs are regular: 받다 → 받아요, 닫다 → 닫아요, 믿다 → 믿어요, 얻다 → 얻어요, and 묻다 'bury' → 묻어요.
Classic mistake
Wrong:
듣다 is ㄷ-irregular: before -어요 the ㄷ becomes ㄹ.
