Don’t mix up

-기(가) 바쁘게vs-자마자-자마자 is neutral and works with commands and requests; -기가 바쁘게 is more vivid and fits real events: 도착하자마자 전화해.-기(가) 바쁘게vs-기가 무섭게Almost interchangeable; -기가 무섭게 sounds a bit more dramatic, stressing startling speed: 문을 열기가 무섭게 손님이 몰려왔다.
-기(가) 바쁘게vs-는 대로-는 대로 is for future plans, promises and requests; -기가 바쁘게 describes what did or usually happens: 도착하는 대로 연락드리겠습니다.

How to build it

V+기(가) 바쁘게

끝나다 → 끝나기(가) 바쁘게

  1. Do not put the past marker -았/었- before 기: say 끝나기가 바쁘게, not 끝났기가 바쁘게. Tense is shown only at the end of the sentence.
  2. It usually describes events that actually happened or happen habitually; it sounds unnatural with commands, requests or suggestions — use -자마자 or -는 대로 there.
  3. It attaches to verbs, not adjectives, and the two clauses may have the same or different subjects.
  4. It has a vivid, slightly literary tone and is common in narratives, news and essays rather than casual small talk.

Classic mistake

Wrong: 회의가 끝나기가 바쁘게 저한테 연락해 주세요.

Right: 회의가 끝나자마자 저한테 연락해 주세요.
