-(으)니만큼vs-(으)ㄴ/는 만큼Same 'reason' meaning, but it needs an adnominal ending and can also mean 'to the degree that'; -(으)니만큼 only means reason: 노력한 만큼 결과가 나온다 (degree) vs 노력했으니만큼 좋은 결과가 나올 것이다 (reason).-(으)니만큼vs-(으)니까-(으)니까 is a neutral, everyday reason; -(으)니만큼 is formal and stresses that the reason fully justifies the conclusion: 비가 오니까 우산 가져가 vs 중요한 행사이니만큼 정장을 입어 주시기 바랍니다.How to build it
V/A+(으)니만큼 (past: V/A + 았/었으니만큼)
N+(이)니만큼
중요하다 → 중요하니만큼, 받다 → 받았으니만큼, 전문가 → 전문가이니만큼
- The following clause must be a logical, fitting consequence of the reason (a duty, suggestion, judgment or expectation); it is not used for surprising or contrary results.
- It attaches directly to the stem with no adnominal ending: 중요하니만큼, not 중요한니만큼 or 중요하는니만큼.
- It sounds formal and is mostly found in writing, speeches and announcements; in casual talk -(으)니까 is usually more natural.
Classic mistake
Wrong: 이번 회의는 중요하는니만큼 미리 준비해야 합니다.
Right: 이번 회의는 중요하니만큼 미리 준비해야 합니다.
