-다가는vs-(으)면-(으)면 is a neutral condition that allows good results; -다가는 is for warnings: 매일 운동하면 건강해져요.-다가는vs-다 보면-다 보면 also means 'if you keep doing', but the result can be positive; -다가는 needs a bad result: 계속 연습하다 보면 잘하게 될 거예요.-다가는vs-다가-다가 describes an action being interrupted or switched, often a real past event; -다가는 warns about a possible future outcome: 학교에 가다가 친구를 만났어요.How to build it
V+다가는
V+았/었다가는
먹다 → 먹다가는, 말하다 → 말했다가는
- The second clause must be an undesirable result. For good or neutral results use -다 보면 or -(으)면.
- The result clause is a prediction, usually ending in -(으)ㄹ 거예요, -겠어요, -(으)ㄹ지도 몰라요 or set phrases like 큰일 나요. It does not end in the past tense, a command or a suggestion.
- Plain -다가는 suggests continuing or repeating an action. -았/었다가는 is used for a single action that would cause trouble if done even once.
