How to build it

V+고 들다

따지다 → 따지고 들다; 캐묻다 → 캐묻고 들다; 우기다 → 우기고 들다

  1. It goes with a small group of verbs of arguing or pressing: 따지다, 캐묻다, 우기다, 덤비다, 꼬투리를 잡다. With neutral or kind actions it sounds wrong.
  2. It is very common as -고 들면, 'once someone starts doing that persistently': 하나하나 따지고 들면 끝이 없다.
  3. Tense and endings go on 들다, not on the first verb: 따지고 들었다, not 따졌고 들었다.
